Chapter 7 bankruptcy timeline part2

The first three items were more like some things you need to respect and not milestones. From now these are actual timelines in a chapter 7 bankruptcy.

4. Your case is filed
The bankruptcy case officially starts when you file your bankruptcy petition .As soon as you do that the bankruptcy court will release a Automatic Stay order to all your creditors (the ones you put in the petition). This means that they are not allowed to contact you or harassing you in any way.

5. The notice

After the Automatic Stay order the bankruptcy court will send an official notice to all your creditors you put in the bankruptcy petition.

6. The trustee
The court will assign a bankruptcy trustee to look over the case. This person is a federal employee who is appointed by court and his main job is to oversee the progress on your case. He will also check to see if you are eligible, review your papers and establish meetings with your creditors.

7. 15 days after the case started
There is a 15 days period in which you need to complete the petion, file several financial schedules and declare your assets, liabilities, expenses and income. If you have a bankruptcy attorney he will fill these for you. If not, you need to do it yourself.

8. Notice of Commencement of Case

Two weeks after you filled the case the court will send a mail with the Notice of Commencement of Case. This is an official letter that inform you about the meeting with the creditors (when and where) .The notice will also contain the deadline for your creditors (in case they want to object and file their claims against you)
